The non-profit that sets performance standards for football helmets and is funded by helmet companies has been hit with an anti-trust complaint by Mayfield, which claims that NOCSAE and the helmet companies have conspired to keep its products off the market by allowing the manufacturers to decide whether they will undertake the certification process for their helmets when they have been retro-fitted with Mayfield’s clips. Mayfield claims that its facemask clips with a Sorbothane insert can reduce shock by as much as 35%.
