Nike Cuts Off More Retailers


The Eager Beavertons are dropping seven more large wholesale accounts, according to Williams analyst Sam Poser, including Big 5, Dunham’s Sports, Olympia Sports, DSW, Urban Outfitters, and Shoe Show. They will also stop selling Swoosh-branded apparel to Macy’s, but the relationship with Finish Line, which operates the department store’s sneaker department, remains intact. The move is the latest escalation in the E.B.s’ drive to eliminate “undifferentiated retail” accounts in favor of key wholesale partners and, most importantly, its own Consumer Direct Offense that seeks to capture an ever-greater share of sales for its DTC channel.
