Nike, Adidas Face Backlash over Xinjiang Cotton Boycott
Western brands are facing pressure from the Chinese government and social media scorn from consumers there for refusing to use cotton sourced from the Xinjiang region over allegations of genocide and forced labor. Nike, Adidas, H&M, New Balance, Phillips-Van Heusen and other members of the Switzerland-based Better Cotton Initiative organization have severed ties with the region, as information has leaked out about human rights abuses of Uyghur workers.
