LULU Founder Sees Four Way Race in Athletic Market
Chip Wilson told CNBC in an interview that he sees Nike, Adidas, Lululemon and Anta as the ultimate winners in the athletic market while delivering a shot at Under Armour as a brand that “lost its way” by relying too heavily on the sporting goods wholesale channel and aiming for a “skinny” market of 14-18 year old boys. He applauded the Eager Beavertons for shifting their business model away from depending on wholesale but adds that not even the E.B.s have been able to replicate LULU’s vertical business model [at least not yet].
