Justice Department Joins Suit against Academy on Gun Sale


The Justice Department said Academy was responsible for the sale of the Ruger AR-556 to Devin Kelley that was used in the Sutherland Springs, TX, shooting to kill 26 people and wound 20 others two years ago because it didn’t follow federal regulations in selling the gun with a high capacity magazine. Kelley used a license from Colorado, where high capacity magazines are illegal, to purchase the weapon in Texas where they are legal, but federal law requires a retailer to follow the state regulations of both the seller and buyer, the Justice Department argued.
