Judge Dismisses Nike Toxic Workplace Suit


An Oregon State Court judge dismissed a derivative lawsuit filed against Nike’s board of directors, alleging that it must have known about a toxic workplace culture at the company, the Portland Business Journal reported. The court agreed with Nike’s lawyers’ arguments, finding that the plaintiff’s case amounted to arguing that “where there’s smoke, there’s fire,” while failing to identify any specific unlawful conduct. The plaintiff’s lawyers had argued that there were plenty of red flags indicating the “boys’ club culture” inside the berm, which the board should have noticed.
