Journeys Finishes 2017 Strong, but Lids Still Struggles


Journeys sales jumped 16% to $452,882,000 from $391,132,000 in the final quarter ended Feb. 3 benefitting from an 11% same store sales increase coming against a 6% decline in Q4 ’16, when the teen retailer came late to the athleisure trend. Operating income was up 29% to $46,533,000 from $36,118,000. Stronger-than-expected boot sales helped by cold weather were a bonus, but the retro and lifestyle athletic trend is still the main growth driver, and it has been extended into more brands.
