Industry Mounts Campaign to Halt New Tariffs; China Signals Softening
Some 160 trade organizations including all the major sporting goods ones asked President Trump to delay imposition on new tariffs Sep. 1 and Dec. 15, and some 209 footwear companies sent a separate letter from the FDRA pointing out specific reasons why their industry would suffer disproportionately. The moves came as China seemed eager to deescalate tensions with an announcement that it would not immediately retaliate with tariffs in response to the latest increases imposed by Trump.
