Hibbett Strategy Pivots to Athletic Fashion


Hibbett told investors that it plans to move from selling commoditized sporting goods to “athletic-inspired fashion,” and announced a change in its corporate name from Hibbett Sports, Inc. to Hibbett, Inc. to reflect the shift in focus. The merchandising department was reorganized over the course of 2020 to prepare for the shift, with teams now focused on men’s, women’s, kids’, team sports, and one for City Gear locations. Athletic footwear will be the lynchpin across departments to capture the sneakerhead consumer, with apparel displayed to match with sneaker colorways and features to support the company’s “toe to head” outfitting strategy.
