Hanesbrands Inventory Shortages Hurt Champion Sales


Net income was $118,702,000 in the first quarter, against a loss of $263,262,000 last year that included a $391,666,000 after tax charge to write down the divested European Innerwear business, as revenues grew 5% (+7% constant currency) to $1,576,156,000 from $1,508,029,000. Net income from continuing operations was down 11% to $114 million from $128 million. Global Champion revenues increased 3%, (+6% CC) and were up 37% from 2020, boosted by retail space gains, price increased and product mix. Without shortages in product that limited sales, Champion’s worldwide top line would have been up 14% CC.
