Google Completes Fitbit Acquisition without DoJ Approval


Google announced today with a post on its blog that it had closed its acquisition of Fitbit, but the U.S. Department of Justice has not approved the acquisition, though its own deadline of Jan. 13 expired without it lodging any objection. The New York Times quoted a DoJ official as saying, “The Justice Department continues to investigate whether Google’s acquisition of Fitbit may harm competition and consumers in the United States.” And in Dec., Australia’s Competition & Consumer Commission rejected Google’s assurances as inadequate and difficult to monitor, even after the European Commission gave the deal its blessing after a ...
