Underlining the challenges facing mall stores without access to Nike, Genesco reported a loss of $19,036,000 against income of $577,000 for the second quarter ended Aug. 1 as sales fell 20% to $391,217,000 from $486,573,000. It gave no comp store sales numbers because of the closures of stores but said e-commerce sales were up 144%. Sales of the Journeys division fell 12% to $276,631,000 from $315,175,000, Schuh sales fell 22% to $71,732,000 from $92,476,000, Johnston & Murphy sales dropped 64% to $24,097,000 from $67,267,000. Licensed Brands sales gained 62% to $18,757,000 from $11,583,000 on the Togast acquisition.
