Former Adidas Exec Details More Payments to College Bound Athletes
T.J. Gassnola, testifying under immunity for the prosecution, told the NY court that he made payments to the families of five high school athletes when he was running the Adidas-sponsored New England Playaz program, including last year’s top NBA draft pick, Deandre Ayton who is now playing for the Phoenix Suns. The court also heard from a number of compliance officers of the colleges where these athletes landed that they had no knowledge of any payments being made, not surprising since these are the very people that everyone would be trying to hide the payments from.
