Fitbit Nears Regulatory Approval for Google Deal
Google’s acquisition of Fitbit enters the first round of decision-making this week in the European Union as the tech giant’s statement of concessions were due to European Commission regulators today. A key concession for the EU is a binding pledge from Google not to use Fitbit users’ health data to sell ads. Google previously said its interest was driven by wearables hardware access and not data. If a deal isn’t reached in the July 20 decision, Google would have to agree to further demands or face a four-month investigation by the commission into sticking points.
