Fila Slows in China as Anta Grows Double Digits
Retail sales of the formerly high-flying Fila brand, which Anta Sports controls in China, grew high-single digits year-over-year in the fourth quarter, but are still up 35-40% from 2019 levels. The sportswear giant’s core Anta brand did better, growing mid-teens in Q4, and high-teens on a two-year stack. Anta has gained momentum though 2021, benefitting from growing demand for native Chinese brands sparked by the government-backed boycotts and social media opprobrium against western brands in response to their Xinjiang sourcing policies.
