In yet another bold move to solidify its lead in licensed retailing, Fanatics will open 325 fan shops in JC Penney doors immediately and anticipates adding another 325 by Back-to-School. Most of the shops will be 650 sq. ft., but some 50 doors will get a Fanatics premium shop of 1,300 sq. ft. All the stores will have in-store tablets that connect consumers to Fanatics’ e-commerce operation. Clearly, Macy’s idea of putting shop-in-shops for specialty areas like sneakers and licensed products with Finish Line and Lids is getting more traction.
