Fanatics’ MLB Deal Sinks Topps’ SPAC Merger
Topps and Mudrick Capital Acquisition Corporation II have called off their merger after Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association revealed that Fanatics would take over the exclusive baseball card license after the expiration of the current agreements. Topps has made baseball cards for over 70 years, and has the MLB license for sports cards through 2025 and the MLBPA license through 2022. Earlier, Fanatics had revealed that its new Candy Digital venture secured the MLB rights for virtual, NFT baseball cards and other collectibles.
