EU Opens Investigation into Nike Tax Shelter


The Eager Beavertons’ Dutch Sandwich Double Irish tax set-up in the European Union, which enabled them to shelter some $6.6 billion in profits over the years, is being formally investigated by the tax authorities who claim that these tax structures may amount to an illegal subsidy by the Dutch government. Similar structures were used by a number of American brands, including Apple, Starbucks and McDonald’s and came to light in 2017 after an investigation by journalists in the Paradise Papers. Nike maintains that it complies with all applicable tax laws.
