Designer Brands is Back in The Black in Q1


The bottom line returned to profitability for the first time since the onset of the pandemic with income of $17,026,000 against last year’s loss of $215,858,000 as sales increased 46% to $703,155,000 over $482,783,000. Stores turned in the first positive comps since Q3 ’19, up 52.2% for the quarter as it lapped the prior year’s negative 42.3% tailspin. U.S. retail sales at DSW were up 65% to $620,658,000, with comps for the region up 56.3% over last year’s negative 42.4%. Athletic comped up 87% over the prior year, while kids’ was up 78%.
