Descente Profits Jump in Final Fiscal Quarter


Net income attributable to shareholders grew six-fold to ¥1,277 million ($11.0 mm) from ¥211 million in the final fiscal quarter ended Mar. 31, on 7% higher revenues of ¥32,211 million ($277.2 mm) up from ¥30,224 million. Gross margin was 53.3%, a 130 basis point improvement, while SG&A grew 9%, deleveraging 110 b.p. as a percent of sales. The Japanese sportswear company’s sales in the home market slipped 1% in the quarter to ¥13,788 million, but South Korea was up 11% to ¥17,513 million and China jumped 71% to ¥532 million, despite new Covid lockdowns there.
