Academy Sports stores will continue to remain open except where forced to close by local health departments, according to a letter from CEO Ken Hicks posted on the retailer’s website. The rationale is that Academy is an essential retailer, selling food, beverages, pet supplies, feed, tools, shelter, and many preparedness items. Seventeen locations are temporarily closed or offering curbside pickup only, and the open stores are operating under reduced hours to allow additional time for intensive cleaning.
