Congress Wants Answers before Beijing Olympics
As the clock ticks down to the Beijing Winter Olympics, the U.S. Congressional-Executive Commission on China is seeking clarity on human rights abuses in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region from the International Olympic Committee and the United Nations. The commission’s Jan. 12 letter to IOC President Thomas Bach requests contract information for Olympic uniforms. Suppliers Anta Sports and Hengyuanxiang Group have publicly acknowledged their use of cotton from the XUAR.
