China Ups Response to U.S. Tariffs, Further Distancing the Two Sides
Beijing issued a White Paper, viewed as an official response to the U.S. on the Trade War, in which it blamed the U.S. for the breakdown in negotiations and demanded that it withdraw its latest round of tariffs before any agreement can be reached. That followed earlier moves in which it targeted some U.S. companies such as FedEx for investigations, evidently in retaliation for U.S. sanctions against Huawei. It also suggested that it might restrict exports of vitally important rare earth minerals to U.S. companies.
