China Doubts Full Trade Pact, Suggesting Tariffs Will Last
Even as the U.S. and China appear to be nearing completion of their Phase One trade deal, Beijing is suggesting that it will remain firm against U.S. demands that it reform the state-sponsored economy that is the thorniest issue separating the two sides. With the U.S. insisting that it won’t lift the existing tariffs until a total trade deal addressing that and other issues is done, the prospects for eliminating tariffs on List 1, List 2, List 3 and List 4A appear to be dimming.
