Brooks Brothers Wants to Become Brooks
In search of an updated image, the doughty purveyor of oxford shirts and pinstripes has embarked on a makeover despite a 1980 agreement with Brooks Sports that gave Brooks the rights to the Brooks trademark for athletic apparel, footwear and sporting goods and Brooks Brothers the rights to other apparel and footwear with a specific carve out that allowed them to make golf shirts. Now, Brooks Brothers wants to get into the sporty apparel and footwear business under its name and, apparently, under just the Brooks name, according to a complaint filed in Seattle federal court.
