Big Boxes, Amazon Sink Alaska Outdoor Retailer


Mountain View Sports Center, which operates two locations in Anchorage, AK, filed for Ch. 11 bankruptcy protection listing $100,001-$500,000 in assets and $1,000,001-$10 million in liabilities. The retailer has been battling bigger competitors since 2004, when Sportsman’s Warehouse opened an Anchorage store, and Cabela’s and Bass Pro both entered the market in 2014. Lately, it has seen a much bigger impact from online competition, specifically Amazon, and it also blames the flat local economy for declining sales.
