BGFV just squeaked into the black in the second quarter with net income of $28,000 against a loss of $248,000 last year on revenues that inched up to $240,965,000 from $239,951,000 including +0.7% comps, despite the quarter including the Easter holiday this year. Sales in the quarter got a boost from CA’s Proposition 63, which requires an “eligibility check” to buy ammunition that began on July 1. The rush to buy ammo before the new rules kicked in drove traffic that more than offset the sales lost to Easter and cool spring weather, which hurt seasonal summer product sales.
