President Biden nominated Alexander Hoehn-Saric, currently chief counsel for the Energy and Commerce subcommittee on communications and consumer protection, to chair the Consumer Product Safety Commission, which has had a vacant seat since 2017. If approved by the Senate, Hoehn-Saric will be a Democratic tie-breaker on the CPSC, which is currently split 2-2 between parties. The second nominee is Mary Boyle, executive director of the CPSC, who would succeed Democratic Commissioner Elliot Kaye, whose term ends this fall. Former President Trump nominated Nancy Beck to fill the vacancy in Mar. last year, but she was never confirmed.
