Bass Pro Looks to Add Staff as REI, MEC Subtract


The two major outdoor chains signaled they were going in different directions in terms of staff needs as Cabela’s said it would add as many as 5,000 new employees to deal with an “unprecedented” wave of interest in outdoor products while REI said that around 400 of its furloughed employees will not be brought back when the furlough period ends Jul. 15. Canadian outdoor retailer Mountain Equipment Co-op is making 200 of its 1,300 temporary store staff layoffs permanent.
