Avenatti Nike Extortion Trial Begins
Attorney Michael Avenatti went on trial Wednesday in New York federal court charged with attempting to extort more than $20 million from the Eager Beavertons. The prosecution and defense dug in their heels with the differing views debated in the media since Avenatti’s arrest during their opening statements to jurors. The prosecution claimed Avenatti is in millions of dollars in debt – some of which he disputes – while he faces other federal indictments for alleged misconduct in his businesses, legal practice, divorces and personal income taxes.
