Attorney Michael Avenatti Arrested in Nike Extortion Scheme
Avenatti, who also represented Stormy Daniels in her confidentiality battle with President Trump, was charged with extorting the Eager Beavertons of $1.5 million to be paid to a client of his and an additional $15-25 million in fees to conduct an internal investigation of Nike in return for not holding a press conference in which he would expose college basketball recruiting violations that were very similar to the ones that resulted in convictions of former Adidas exec Jim Gatto and two of his affiliates. He was charged in Southern District New York.
