Another Urban Retail Chain Bites the Dust, Sues Nike


Sport Zone, which operated 28 stores as recently as Sep., filed for bankruptcy protection in Maryland with estimated assets of $500,000 to $1 million and estimated liabilities of $1 million to $10 million. It simultaneously sued Nike, its largest vendor, to get a $3.7 million promissory note overturned and have the Eager Beavertons return its payments plus interest and court costs to the estate, presumably for the benefit of other vendors. Meanwhile, Sport Zone has found a buyer in Halifax, a NJ-based apparel wholesaler, that has offered to purchase SportZone’s assets and continue operating the business without doing business with ...
