Results were hurt by the trucker strike that paralyzed Brazil for two weeks at the end of May, sending its Mizuno sneaker business down 8% to R$1,109 million ($281.7 mm) there and its sports apparel sales down 13% to R$292 million ($74.2 mm). In Argentina, sports segment sales improved, with Mizuno and Topper footwear up 7% to R$1,246 million ($316.5 mm) and apparel up 4% to R$436 million ($110.7 mm). However, the devaluation of the Argentinian peso is leading Alpargatas to re-evaluate its manufacturing strategies for that market.
