Alberto Salazar Receives Permanent Ban from SafeSport
The former Nike coach and director of its Oregon Project track team was declared permanently ineligible to coach USA Track & Field athletes by the U.S. Center for SafeSport, citing sexual and emotional misconduct. Salazar had received a temporary suspension in Feb., 2020, after a New York Times published an op-ed written by runner Mary Cain, who alleged she had been body shamed and weighed in front of her teammates. Other former Oregon Project runners then came forward with additional accusations. Salazar, who has denied misconduct, can appeal the decision and request arbitration within 10 business days.
