Academy Sports Wins in Texas Supreme Court
The TX Supreme Court threw out several lawsuits brought by victims of the Sunderland Springs church shooting, which accused ASO of negligence for selling the shooter a Ruger AR-556 MSR used in the crime. The ruling was fairly straightforward, accepting Academy’s defense that the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act applied in this case. An attempt by the plaintiffs to argue that the Academy store in San Antonio broke the law by selling the shooter the firearm with a standard, 30-round magazine, which would have been illegal in his home state of CO, failed to sway the judges.
