Academy Sports Appeal Proceeds in Texas Supreme Court


Academy’s fight against several lawsuits brought by victims of the Sunderland Springs mass shooting, is proceeding in TX Supreme Court after that state’s Fourth Court of Appeals denied a motion to dismiss the suits. The shooter purchased the Ruger AR-556 MSR used in the crime at an Academy store in San Antonio, and the plaintiffs want to hold the retailer liable for damages. Following the appeals court decision, the state Supreme Court granted Academy’s request for an emergency stay last summer, and agreed to hear full briefings on the merits as to whether it should issue a writ of mandamus ...
